Monuments

This Carmelite sanctuary was a hermitage dedicated to Saint Peter in Pulgão where a statues of Nossa Senhora das Dores was placed, perhaps in the eighteenth century. This cult has many places of worship in the Algarve, especially in fishing zones.

The exterior of the sanctuary includes a Manueline doorway and the interior includes eighteenth century effigies of São Pedro, São Luís and Our Lady of the Distressed.

The annual feast is held on the last Sunday in August. The faithful demonstrate their faith by offering wax candles, wheat and animals. On the first Sunday in September, a feast dedicated to São Luís, the patron saint of animals, is held in this Sanctuary.
