Capela de São Gregório
Capela de São Gregório
Monuments
Located near the main Leiria road, the Chapel de São Gregório is a small, octagonal, Renaissance-style chapel. This 16th century church is dedicated to São Gregório Nazianzeno - the theologian who together with St John the Evangelist proved the divinity of Jesus.
Three sides of the chapel contain a church porch perched on Tuscan columns. The main doorway is decorated with Manueline motifs similar to those of the window of the Chapter Room in the Convent of Christ. Inside, the nave is covered by a vault and decorated with 18th-century tiles from the Convent of Trinas in Lisbon, representing scenes from the life of São Gregório.
