Museums and Palaces

Ourém Municipal Museum encompasses various units, one of the most important being the Administrator’s House. This 19th-century building displays collections of archaeology, ethnography, toys, postcards and photographs portraying the atmosphere in the New Town of Ourém in 1900, including local dynamics and expressions, and also inspires people to visit the municipality’s heritage sites and museums.

This house is linked to the history of the Apparitions of Fátima, since it was owned at the time by Artur Oliveira Santos, Administrator of the Municipality. He doubted the veracity of the reports of the three witnesses – Jacinta, Lúcia and Francisco, and kept them here for questioning between August 13 and 15, 1917.
