Church of São Lourenço de Almancil
The Church of São Lourenço de Almancil was built in the first half of the 18th century, in Baroque style.
The interior decoration is a classic work of Portuguese baroque style and azulejo art. The main altar has a gilded woodwork altarpiece and the walls are completely covered by azulejo panels recounting scenes from the life of São Lourenço, produced by Policarpo de Oliveira Bernardes. The overall set of panels, produced in 1730, is one of the most representative examples of adaptation of azulejo tiles to architecture, which is so characteristic of Portuguese sacred art.
