Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora do Castelo
There is widespread popular worship of Nossa Senhora do Castelo, the Patron Saint of Castelo. The hermitage was commissioned by Paio Peres Correia, after the conquest of Castelo during the reign of King D. Sancho II. In 1510 the church was restored with a Manueline design. In the 17th century, the church was subsequently decorated with glazed tile pannels.
Religious ceremonies are rarely held in the site, but there are many visitors to the church. Processions are also held from time to time.
