Museu da Região Flaviense
Museums and Palaces
The mission of the Flavian Region Museum, in Chaves, is to raise public awareness of the richness of Flavian culture, and it is dedicated to preserving and enhancing its historical heritage.
Established in 1929, the museum has been located in various sites, including the old church of the Convento das Freiras and Largo do Anjo building, until it settled, in 1978, in the emblematic Palace of the Dukes of Bragança, where the Archaeology and Prehistory Centre is currently located.
In 1993, it was redesigned to encompass several of the region's themed museums. Since then, its main core has been focused on archaeology and prehistory, featuring permanent and temporary exhibitions that portray the history of the region from the earliest times.
