EVOA - Espaço de Visitação e Observação de Aves (Visiting and Birdwatching Centr (...)
Activities
Just 30 minutes from Lisbon, you can embark on a magnificent expedition into the world of birds, which can be observed in their natural habitat, while exploring the wild side of the Tagus River.
Part of the grounds of Companhia das Lezírias, and located in the heart of Portugal's most important wetland, EVOA - Visiting and Birdwatching Centre has as its main objective the conservation of the birdlife of the Tagus Estuary Nature Reserve (Reserva Natural do Estuário do Tejo) and of Lezíria (Wetland) of Vila Franca de Xira.
Between landscapes of wetland, moorland, rice paddies, cattle and horse pastures, vineyards and cork oak forests, the EVOA offers visitors the chance to get to know and enjoy unique experiences and heritage.
The EVOA includes three freshwater wetlands totalling 70 hectares. These lagoons are very important for the birds that use them as a refuge area or even as a nesting site. In order to guarantee the tranquillity of the birds and maximise the experience and comfort of the visit, there are four observatories, two photography shelters and various observation points camouflaged along the 5 km route.
The EVOA also has an Interpretation Centre where you can see the permanent exhibition "EVOA, where the world meets the Tagus" and where various activities complement birdwatching.
The experience begins as soon as you enter the South Lezíria (Wetland) of Vila Franca de Xira, with contrasting landscapes where tradition merges with innovation and you are welcomed by a wide variety of species that feed or take refuge in the ditches, agricultural fields and pastures of the wetlands.
