It is on the 20th of January that the Fogaceiras Festival is celebrated, the oldest and most symbolic religious festivity in the municipality of Santa Maria da Feira. In addition to the festivities in the municipality, this event has the particularity of also being celebrated across borders, in Brazil, Venezuela and South Africa by the Portuguese communities.

During the event, the fogaceira girls carry the fogaça on their heads, dressed in white with colored bands around their waists, fulfilling the promise made to the Martyr Saint Sebastian in 1505.
