Dr. Valadão, as he was known on the island, was born in the nineteenth century through the twentieth century, until 1969. He was a prominent lawyer and politician in local society, who captured and gathered a very rich and vast photographic heritage. Today, the Luís da Silva Ribeiro Public Library and Regional Archive – in Angra do Heroísmo, on Pico Island – makes available to its users and the public, the largest photographic collection in its custody – the Photographic Archive of Francisco Lourenço Valadão Jr. – donated by his son, Ramiro Valadão. Thus, through this exhibition, we can visualize and experience the places, festivals and customs, family and collective, of the island of Terceira at the end of the nineteenth century and twentieth century.
