On December 8th, a special day is celebrated, not only in Vila Viçosa, where the Sanctuary of the Patron Saint of Portugal is located, but also throughout the Alentejo and Portugal. On this day of the religious calendar, the day of Our Lady of the Conception is celebrated and therefore, the Alentejo village receives thousands of people who come to the Sanctuary in an act of devotion and faith.

At the end of November, the religious celebrations begin with the usual preparatory novena, on the same day, among other celebrations, one of the highlights are the Eucharist of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception and the traditional procession through the streets of Vila Viçosa.
