Drag Race - The Transgression of the Baroque, Joana Vasconcelos
Events
The luminous exuberance of Portuguese gilded woodwork serves as the starting point for the creation of Drag Race, by Joana Vasconcelos. In this work, the baroque splendor of D. João V's carriages meets the boldness of red feathers, an emblem of freedom and transgression. Thus emerges a reinvention of the Porsche 911 Targa Carrera, transformed into a visual manifesto: a celebration of fantasy, excess and the deconstruction of institutional formalism.
To make this vision a reality, the artist collaborated with the Ricardo do Espírito Santo Silva Foundation, a benchmark in Portuguese decorative arts. With the technical and artistic support of her master craftsmen, Vasconcelos brought together tradition and innovation in a single piece, contributing to the appreciation and preservation of traditional Portuguese techniques in the context of contemporary art.
