Created in 1962 for the Stuttgart Ballet, John Cranko's Romeo and Juliet, with music by Sergei Prokofiev, is today a masterpiece of the classical repertoire. The theatrical choreography combines technique and expression, transforming dance into narrative. Cranko sensitively reveals the characters' dilemmas and the weight of fate. The music, composed between 1935 and 1936, alternates between tension and tenderness.

Premiered at the CNB in 2001, with costumes by António Lagarto, sets by João Mendes Ribeiro and photography by Daniel Blaufuks, this production has become iconic. More than a tragic love, it is a symbol of youth, courage and hope.
