This concert by the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa features soloists Nuno Rodrigues on violin and Sérgio Sousa on viola, conducted by Jan Wierzba. They perform works by B. Britten and Tchaikovsky.
Tchaikovsky premiered his first symphony in 1868 in Moscow. At the age of 28, he was announcing three influences that would accompany his entire career: the formal solidity of the classical tradition, romantic voluntarism and the archetypes of an idealized Russian identity. In this program, you can also learn a concerto for violin, viola and orchestra composed by Britten when, in 1932, he was still studying at the Royal College of Music.
