Tahiti! (Lagos)
Tahiti! (Lagos)
Events
Tahiti! is part of the double bill opera tradition, presenting two short works in the same evening. The program combines Trouble in Tahiti, a chamber opera by Leonard Bernstein, centered on the married life of Sam and Dinah in an urban suburb, with Pacific Pleasures, by Alannah Marie Halay, with a libretto by Jorge Balça, conceived as a prequel to Bernstein's work and presented as a national premiere.
On stage, five lyrical singers (Inês Constantino, Leonel Pinheiro, Ricardo Panela, Rui Baeta and Sofia Marafona) accompanied by puppeteers Ana Rebelo and Luís Godinho (S.A. Marionetas) and the Algarve Orchestra. Using physical theater and puppets, inspired by the work of Paula Rego, this production promotes the circulation of staged opera, expanding audiences and performance contexts.
(In English, with Portuguese subtitles).
