In 2021, the Serralves Foundation deposited works from the Leal Rios Collection, bringing together more than 70 Portuguese and international artists. Due to its size, coherence and prestige, this collection is one of the most significant collections of contemporary art in Portugal.

Although the Leal Rios Foundation has its own space in Lisbon, many of the works had never been exhibited publicly due to their complex installation requirements. The exhibition, in the Álvaro Siza Wing, focuses on these new pieces and includes "anchor" artists, promoting dialogues between generations, geographies and contemporary artistic languages.
