    Forte de Nossa Senhora da Graça ou de Lippe
    This fort is situated little more than a kilometre to the north of the fortress of Elvas and stands on the top of an imposing rocky outcrop. It is a true masterpiece of 18C European military architecture and is outstandingly beautiful.

    The fort is located by the side of the road leading to Guincho, isolated and protected by a fence. Much still remains of its original construction - a gateway with an inscription and the royal coat of arms.

    Originally known as the Guincho battery, the name which was then given to this rocky headland, the fort began to be known as Giribita from the 19C onwards. Later it became known as Nossa Senhora do Porto Salvo.

    This fort was built right on the edge of the beach, only a few metres from the sea, which comes up to its walls in winter.

    This defensive structure was built in the 17th century and was part of a set of ramparts that surrounded the town, some parts of which are still visible between the houses.

    Forte de Santa Catarina
    The fort has a curious triangular shape, with a half rampart in its northern corner. Inside is a small chapel and the barracks. Together with the Forte de Buarcos and the Fortim de Palheiros, it formed part of a group of defensive fortifications.

    Rectangular in shape and with a turret on each corner, this fort stands to the south of the harbour bar on a high sheer cliff. Inside its walls is a small chapel dedicated to Santa Catarina, with a Gothic portal.

    Above the coat of arms is an inscription which refers to this fort's construction by D. Pedro, Marquês de Fronteira, and the date when its reconstruction was completed: "MDCCCLIX".
