In 2024, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the revolution that took place on the 25th of April 1974, putting an end to the dictatorial regime and the New State, and implementing democracy in Portugal.

This highly significant date will be celebrated by Portuguese people not only across the country, but also around the world. Here in Portugal, a wide range of initiatives, events and shows will be taking place up and down the country to mark this momentous occasion and celebrate April and its achievements, including freedom of speech.

The intention is that 2024 should be a year of celebration and evocation, but also of learning, reflection and action. For everyone, with everyone. In Portugal and around the world.

Learn more about the history of this place and its role in the Carnation Revolution, which ended the dictatorship in Portugal in 1974. The visits take place on 11, 12, 18, 19, 24, 26, 29 and 30 April and 9 and 10 May.
