The MIMO Festival was born in Brazil and celebrated its twentieth anniversary in 2023. Idealised by Lu Araújo, it had its first international edition in 2016 in the city of Amarante.
Entirely free of charge, MIMO is an inclusive festival that favours ease of access and diversity, showcasing the best of today's music in Portugal and around the world, from established names to new talents. It has been a rich and unforgettable experience, offering democratic access to a range of diverse and wide-ranging cultural proposals, from cinema to poetry, from workshops to masterclasses.
Artists such as Egberto Gismonti, Herbie Hancock, Tom Zé, Mário Laginha and Pedro Burmester, Pat Metheny and Ron Carter, Tinariwen, Selma Uamusse, Três Tristes Tigres, Ricardo Ribeiro, Goran Bregovic, Rodrigo Amarante, Manel Cruz, Rui Veloso, Dead Combo, BaianaSystem, Bruno Pernadas, Salif Keita, Samuel Úria, Seun Kuti & Egypt 80, Criolo, Mayra Andrade, Chico César, Mário Lúcio & os Kriols, Ray Lema, Branko, Don Letts and Emicida, among many others.
